In October and November i’m lucky enough to be involved in a couple of very cool things.
What You Need to Know About …
Kathryn Burnett runs these very cool online Q & A’s each focusing on a different element of writing. i’m excited to be chatting to Kathryn about Writing the Near Future.
How do you imagine a world that feels familiar and yet unsettlingly different?
Next Monday, I’m talking with award-winning novelist pip adam in what will be a fascinating conversation about the challenges and possibilities of Writing The Near Future.
In Monday’s PAY AS YOU WISH Q & A, we’ll explore how writers take the world we know and imagine what comes next, how to create believable future worlds without getting bogged down in explanation, and how to turn speculation into compelling stories. Whether you’re already deep into a near-future story or simply curious about possibilities, this session will offer fresh insights and inspiration.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT WRITING THE NEAR FUTURE:
Date: Monday 19 Oct

Verb’s beloved, one-night-only, high-energy literary festival takes over the streets of inner-city Wellington. Twenty-six untamed events unfolding across bars, fabric stores, galleries, bookshops and more — a joyous celebration of writing and books in unexpected ways and unexpected places.
There are so many amazing events in the crawl you can see the programme and buy tickets on the Verb Wellington website
i’m excited to be in Phase 2 of VerbCrawl in Lighten Up with the amazing Hugo Grrrl at the awesome Aurelia Books
After a lifetime of being told she can’t take a joke, pip adam wrote the book, kluge, in the style of a stand-up comedy special. With Hugo Grrrl, pip explores the structure of comedy, the politics of laughter, and the weaponisation of humour in contemporary culture.
