In the third episode in the Character season of Elements, I talk to Tatyana Kulida about character and how it relates to her work. We use Henry Miller’s book ‘To Paint is to Love Again’ as a starting point for this discussion.

Exercise:

I feel really lucky in this episode because Tatyana has offered a really amazing exercise which appears at the end of this episode. Tatyana suggests looking at a picture (it might be of a character) and making the simplest ‘envelope’ for that picture. The idea is to abstract the image into simple shapes – like a triangle or a square. Here are a couple of images that will help you will this exercise.
